ARLINGTON, Tenn. (Arlington Community Schools) – Arlington Community Schools is proud to announce that Donelson Elementary School has been named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School, a prestigious honor granted by the U.S. Department of Education!

DES, one of only 349 schools nationwide to receive the coveted award, is classified as an Exemplary High Performing School, meaning DES is among the nation’s highest performing schools.

Up to 420 schools are nominated each year based on a list of criteria. Those schools then submit a comprehensive summary detailing the school’s history and achievements. “The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content,” according to a press released by Us. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

“Becoming a National Blue Ribbon School doesn’t happen overnight,” said ACS Superintendent Tammy Mason. “It takes years of hard work and dedication by teachers, faculty and staff, and students, and we cannot be prouder of this achievement. It’s truly a remarkable feat.”

“Our teachers have an ongoing commitment to building relationships for the long term,” said Assistant Principal Krista Heller. “They are truly trying to delve into the students’ lives and support them in all aspects. It’s amazing because it’s not just one person doing this work. It’s the collective, and it’s truly awesome.”

Congratulations to all past and current teachers, students and staff at Donelson Elementary for obtaining this esteemed designation!
